What was the benefit of this EXPO? From the point of view that I lived in neighborhood, roads were maintained fully, linear mortor train was constructed, some stations were extended preparing for EXPO, new theme parks opened such as Italian Village, and some restaurants opened. Especially, road system around Seto-city was improved so much. And Chubu-New-Airport opened, which makes air-transportation better, except USA directions.
Besides, in the meaning of international exchange, that is one of the goals of EXPO, new restaurants that was managed and cooked by foreigners, opened around EXPO site, which brings international exchange at those restaurants.
In economic meaning, transportation fares to EXPO site, hotel charges for people who came from distant place (the rate of operation of hotels in Nagoya-city over 90%), cost for foods around hotel, were droped. Thinking 20% of 15 millions people (it might across 20 millions), came from distant place, leads to 3 millions. Thinking each uses $300 (including hotel, food, and transportation), goes to $90 billions invested to Aichi in total. How much is the total benefit after adding other people from neighborhood?

先週木曜日に最後の万博訪問をしてきました。目当ては今まで入れなかったトヨタ館と日立館の二つだったのですが、結局二つとも入ることができませんでした。開幕30分後にはすでに当日の整理券は配布終了という盛況ぶり。
仕方なく、今までに見たことのなかったパビリオン、今までに見て良かったパビリオンを中心に回りました。

さて、今回の万博がもたらしたものとは何だったのでしょうか？実家が地元ということでいわせてもらえれば、各所の道路が整備されたり、リニア・モーターカーが新築されたり(これは万博終了後の収益が心配だが・・・)、万博にあわせた駅の増築(尾張瀬戸駅は駅ビルを作ってしまった・・・)や新規テーマ・パーク(名古屋港のイタリア村がその典型)、そして新しいお食事処が各地にできたこと。中でも瀬戸周辺の道路網は格段に良くなった。さらに中部新国際空港が開港し、空の便も便利になった(アメリカ方面に関しては、名古屋空港の方が使い勝手は良かったが・・・)。
また万博の目的のひとつでもある国際交流という意味でも、外国人が料理してくれる外国人経営の飲食店が万博会場周辺に急増し、そこに集まる現地の人と会話することで、世界各国を知ることができるようになったのではないだろうか？
経済的にも万博会場への交通費、遠方から万博に訪れた人の宿泊費(名古屋市内のホテルは稼働率90%を超えているらしい)、ホテル周辺での飲食費など、1500万人(最終的には2000万人を超えるかもしれないが・・・)のうちの20%の人が遠方から来たと考えても、300万人。一人一人が3万円くらい(宿泊、食事、交通費)を使ったとしても、900億円のお金が愛知県に対して、投資されたことになる。これに近隣から来た人たちの交通費や食事代を加えれば、一体いくらの収益になるのだろうか？
