This Monday, I went to 25th anniversary event of a movie. That is "The Blues Brothers".
It was really great time, there were some guests such as James Brown, and director John Landis.
These kind of celebration is not rare in USA. There were JAWS's 30th anniversary celebration, STAR WARS's 25th anniversary celebration, and E.T.'s 20th anniversary celebration within a couple of years.
This time, there were so many funs in the theater and they looked enjoying movie and the conversations between film-makers. Actually, it was so exciting. There were Blues Brothers goods(black hut, black sun-glass, and black tie) on each chair, and almost all the audience put on it during the pre-show.
One astonishing thing happened after the movie came on the screen. Director of this movie sat on one of the audience chair and he kept watching till the end. This never happens in Japan!!
I think this way of enjoying movie is a privilege of Hollywood. I've never heard of these celebration in Japan. Actually, there are a lot of good films in Japan. However, none of Japanese movie celebrate its anniversary even though it is Kurosawa's film. There is only one exception, it's GODZILLA.
I hope this way of enjoying movie will spread and prevail in Japanese movie society someday.
