June/30/2009 First time in 3 years to Riverside & 5 years to Moreno Valley
2009年6月30日 5年ぶりのMoreno Valley と 3年振りのRiverside

I went to Moreno Valley where I home-stayed for 10 weeks right after coming to US and Riverside where I went to school as business trip.
I visited Riverside a couple of times after I moved to LA because my friends were still there but this is first time to visit in 3 years. Regarding to Moreno Valley, it was in 5 years!!

I came to USA on June 15th 2004, and the class started next day.
So current Japanese students just started their school life last week or two. It was something like I saw what I had been 5 years ago. Quite interesting thing!!

On the other hand, I was amazed a lot at Moreno Valley. So many things changed a lot!!
There was a movie theater where we can see the movie for $3 every Tuesday. New movie theater was built within 5 minutes walk distance from there. Both theaters are still open.
I thought it was not like convenience stores, so don't make two movie theaters withing walking distance.
And more, both theaters are cine-plex and has more than 10 screens... what a crazy locations!!

By the way, there is one famous spot in Riverside, called "C" mountain. It has a chipped letter of "C" on the top.
It kept remaining as a question in my mind what this "C" means. There was no answer for this question on this trip but I found another mountain that has a letter of "M" in Moreno Valley. As a result it bacame, "CM" or "MC"?

It is still mystery...

先週仕事で渡米直後に10週間だけホームステイしていたMoreno Valleyとそこから通っていた学校のあるRiversideに行ってきました。
Riversideは友人がいたこともあり、LAに移ってからも何度か足を運んでいたが、それでも3年ぶり。そしてMoreno ValleyにいたってはLAに来てからは5年ぶりに足を運んだ。

最初に自分が通っていたUCRのExtensionに向かったが、自分が5年前に渡米したのが6月15日で、授業が始まったのが、その翌日。
ってことは考えて見ると、今のExtensionにいる日本人って、ちょうど今週か、先週から授業が始まったばかり。いや、もう5年前の自分達を客観的に見てる感じで、とても懐かしくなりました。

でもって、Moreno Valleryは、もういろんなことが変わりすぎてて、驚きました。
毎週火曜日に$3で映画が見れた映画館から徒歩5分のところに別の映画館ができていて、昔の映画館はつぶれてるかと思いきや、そっちもまだ営業中。
コンビニじゃねぇんだから、徒歩圏内に映画館2つも作るなよ。
しかもどちらもシネコンでそれぞれ10スクリーン以上ある・・・。なんて設置の仕方を考えてんだ・・・。

そういえば、Riversideの名物の1つに、"C"山というのがある。山頂に"C"の刻まれた、通称"C"山。(まんま)
一体全体、この"C"が何を示しているのか、ずっと謎だった。でもって結局、今回も謎のまま戻ってきたのだが、Moreno Valleyから山頂に"M"の刻まれた山を発見。あわせて、CM。あるいはMC？

やっぱり、謎だ・・・
