Finally, here are 8 teams for semi-final of 2010 FIFA World Cup.

Here are the pares of semi-final.
Netherlands vs Brazil
Uruguay vs Ghana
Argentina vs Germany
Paraguay vs Spain

Looking at this, I wish we could see Japan against Spain but Japan's game was lower than the one like Germany, Argentina or Brazil.
This time Japan has a luck on lot and matched with Paraguai but there was a possibility to match with Spain and Germany and in that case, Japan needs higher offensive skill even though defense is ok. So I think Japan is still early for semi-final.

By the way, the expected game at quarter final is Netherlands vs Brazil first.
Both teams become champion favorite every time. As long as watching the games so far, Brazil has advantage. Brazil shows another level as if they are doing different sport.
(But Spain shows such a great performance like today even though they lost at their first game. This is the difficulty of soccer and this is the fun of soccer.)

The most important game is Argentina vs Germany, which is the sequence of 2006.
This two team matched in 86 and 90 at the final. Argentina won in 86 because of Maradona's performance who is the current coach. Germany won in 90 shut off Maradona.
Previous World Cup in 2006, Germany won after penalty shoot-out and current Argentina star Messi couldn't join the game and he watched from the bench. Therefore, this game will be the exciting one for both coach and ace-striker of Argentina.

2010 FIFA ワールド･カップ、いよいよベスト8が出揃った。

準々決勝の組み合わせは以下のようになった。
オランダvsブラジル
ウルグアイvsガーナ
アルゼンチンvsドイツ
パラグアイvsスペイン

こうしてみると、パラグアイの代わりに日本がスペインと戦う姿を見たかったと思うが、このゲームや、ドイツ戦、アルゼンチン戦、あるいはブラジル戦と比べるとやはり日本の試合は1段も2段もレベルが落ちる。
今回はクジ運がよく、パラグアイと当たったが、1回戦でこのスペインやドイツなどと当たっていた可能性もあったわけだから、その場合、現状の強固な守備はまだしも、攻撃において、格段のレベルの違いを見せられていただろう・・・と思うと、やはり日本がベスト8に進出するにはやはりまだ早かったのだろう。
(何十年とかけて築き上げた伝統国のそれと比べるのは酷だが・・・)

さて、準々決勝の注目カードはまず、オランダvsブラジルだろう。
どちらも毎回優勝候補に挙がる国だが、ここまでの戦いを見る限りブラジル優勢だろう。ブラジルだけは何か他のスポーツをしているのか？というくらい別次元のサッカーをしている。
(といっても初戦で負けたスペインが、今日のような試合をすることもあるからサッカーはわからないし、そこがサッカーの面白さでもある)

そして最注目のカードは、2006年大会に続く、アルゼンチンvsドイツ。
この2チーム、86年、90年も続けて顔をあわせており、しかもこの2大会は決勝戦での対戦。現アルゼンチン代表監督マラドーナの活躍で86年はアルゼンチンが、そしてそのマラドーナを封じ込めた90年はドイツがそれぞれ優勝している。
さらに前回大会ではPKの末にドイツが勝っており、現アルゼンチンのエース・メッシはその時はピッチ上には立てず、ベンチから負けた現場を見ていた。というわけで、アルゼンチンの監督・エースにとっては気合の入った試合になること間違いなしです。
