Last week, there was the presidential election, and Bush won the close contest and he was reelected for the President. As for me, I was a kind of Bush side but truthfully I didn't care whichever would win the race.
If I was insisted, Kelly's policy sounded like just opposition of Bush rather than his own claim.
As the difference from Japan, I want to mention the fact celebrities did support substantially. Actually, some celebrities do support, but it was quite different in the Presidential race, which was dealt in newspaper, TV, and magazine, and so on.
By the way, do you know the system of this presidential election? The emphasis is on two point.
First of all, it is national referendum. In Japan, there is no system to select prime minister, who is the head of Japanese goverment, at all. However in USA, President of USA, the head of American government, is selected by the national referendum. In my opinion, Japan should have this system. Why do they choose the head of the country by limited people that claims "democracy"? I have wondered for a long time, the system the nation can't choose the head of the country is one factor of the situation that the rate of vote is low in Japan, isn't it?
Second, the system called as "Electoral College", which means every state has a certain number and the one who gets more votes than the other acquire the whole number of the state. For example, California state has 55 vote as "Electoral College." In case candidate Mr.A won candidate Mr.B by just 1 vote, Mr.A gets 55 votes and Mr.B get 0 vote as a result. This system is applied for each state and the candidate, who gets the majority of this number, will be the president of USA. Therefore, even if the number of the state that one candidate win is less than the other, it is possible to go over the other in the number of vote, which means getting states that have large number of the "Electoral College" is really important. (In case none of them can't get the number more than 270, the House of Representatives designate the president.)
