As a response to this, election campaign goes into a intense competition. Besides, each state has a bias about political party, and there are some states that no campaign is done at all. One of them is California state in where I live, which supports Democratic Party overwhelmingly.
Right after I arrived at USA, election campaign was already heated, and we have some discussions about the presidential election, which suprised me so much because of Korean sutudents' attitude toward politics.
Especially, party convention and panel discussion on TV are more close to entertainment rather than election campaign. Party convention is a meeting which is held to support each candidate of each party. It is a kind of version-up of Japanese election campaign.
The other one, panel discussion on TV, was really interesting for me. (I never knew this system when I was in Japan.) It is the system that candidates have a discussion on their policies face to face in TV program. I felt this system enforces candidates to have an ability of performance, which is similar to entertainment as I mentioned above, in addition to the quality as a politician. The reason I did was we could see their countenances well through TV display, and they were required to respond quickly against the situation that they had different claims and the situation that opponent criticized one's opinion. Supporters would leave if they had a helpless countenance or they couldn't reply properly.
They are required two abilities as a performer who can response quickly against any situation and as a politician through TV that is the media making much of outward. Precisely, it requires performance ability to manage diplomacy because President of USA is exposed to the world with medium such as TV and newspaper. Theredore, this panel discussion can be a good challenge to show their ability to the nation. I think this system is really interesting.
Personally, Japan should be based on national referendum about the selection of prime minister. In that point, American system can be a good example but why don't they imitate American system when they made Japanese constitution, which was carried out with American initiative? (If they did it, Japanese people would have more interest in politics.) This is the only question for me. There is another personal question when I can finish my report.
