New Year in Las Vegas!! |

ラスベガスの新年!! 〜狂喜乱舞〜 |
First of all, New Year was special! Whole the city had speciality for this big event. For example, it was Christmas that had done. It is usually exchanged into KADO-MATSU or signboard with "GASHO"(meaning "Welcome for New Year") in Japan on the midnight on December 25th, however we could see Christmas trees and illuminations to use for New Year's decoration.
The Strip, which is the main street of Las Vegas, was closed to be a pedestrian street on New Year's eve, and so much people came on the road. The signboard of each hotel started count-down, and then fireworks were shot off from 10 hotels along the Strip. Eiffel Tower of Paris (not city but a hotel's name), emitted laser beams.
Tourists also united with these and came to high. It was quite natural to say "Happy New Year!!" when they passed with a beer on their hand. There were a marching group swinging a flag and singing a song and women showing their breast turning over their shirt. It was a scene to be suitable to call "KYO-KI-RAN-BU", which means dancing madly for joy.

まずはやはり、ニュー・イヤーでしょうか？街自体がこの一大イベントに向けて、いろいろと趣向を凝らしていました。例えば終わったはずのクリスマス。日本であれば、クリスマス・ツリーやクリスマス・イルミネーションは25日の深夜には門松や"賀正"の看板などに代わるのですが、こちらではニュー・イヤーのお飾りとしても使われるため、そのまま残っていました。
また、ニュー・イヤー・イヴにはラスベガスのメイン・ストリートとも言うべきストリップが封鎖され、歩行者天国になり、そこに大勢の人があふれ出しました。そしてホテルの看板がカウントダウンを告げ、ストリップ沿いの10のホテルの屋上から花火が打ち上げられ、パリスのエッフェル塔からはレーザー光線が発射されました。
観光客もそれに合わせて、大盛り上がり！ビールを片手にすれ違いざまに"Happy New Year!!"と交わすのは当たり前に行われ、ホコ天には集団で旗をふりながら、歌を歌って行進するグループもいたり、シャツをめくり上げて胸を見せる女性がいたり・・・、といった感じで"狂喜乱舞"とでもいうべき光景が目の前に繰り広げられました。
