Today's top news from "USATimes" is "Tsuyu" (meaning Japanese rainy season). My hometown, Nagoya, got snowed at the end of last year while Los Angeles went into rainy season. Today is the first sunny day of this year. A storm came to south California and almost all the news treat the storm everyday. It was flooded 1 hour away from Los Angeles by car, houses were flown away by flooded water, the situation was terrible. I heard it is abnormal weather this year. Therefore, my friends in Los Angeles couldn't go anywhere due to the rain.
By the way, I want to go into today's main topic. It exists in USA that we Japanese call it "JOSHI-ANA" (meaning anchorwoman) and they are in charge with the program in the morning and etc as we Japanese can see in "Mezamashi TV". However there are three big differences between Japan and USA.
First, it is about age. There is 30years-old-age retiring theory of "JOSHI-ANA" in Japan while it is rare to see the anchorwoman under 30 in USA. This might look like a remarkable situation for Japanese whose anchorwomem are becoming idol. However, thinking of the main purpose of the news program that is to inform new information properly, it may be natural that anchorwoman who has a lot of experience takes the charge. It is unusual that young announcer, who looks good in appearance but often bungle her lines, is regarded as important as in Japan.

本日の"USATimes"トップ・ニュースは梅雨です・・・。我が故郷の名古屋では年末に雪が降ったそうですが、最近、ロスは梅雨です。今年に入ってから今日初めて晴れました。というのは南カリフォルニアにストームが来ていて、連日連夜ニュースはストームの被害報告ばかりです。ロスから車で1時間くらいのところが冠水したり、家が流されたり、かなり深刻な被害状況です。例年はこんなことはなく、今年は異常気象の模様です。というわけで、ロスで年越しした友人は雨でどこにも行けなかったようです。
さて、それでは本日の本題です。日本でいうところの女子アナのような存在はこちらにもあって、朝のニュース番組などを担当しています(日本でいうなら、目覚ましテレビなど・・・)。しかし、日本とは大きな違いが三つあります。
まずは年齢。日本では女子アナ30歳定年説などというのもありますが、こちらでは逆に20代の女性アナウンサーというのはほとんど見たことがありません(ここでいうアナウンサーとは"番組のメインを張る"という意味です)。これは女子アナがアイドル化している日本と比べると異常なことなのかもしれませんが、ニュース番組の本来の目的である"新しい情報を正しく伝える"ということを考えれば、経験を積んだアナウンサーが伝える、これが普通なのかもしれません。日本のように見た目重視の噛み噛みの若手アナウンサーがいるほうが異常だとも思えますね。
