Next, mammonth lab, I expected so much, was not good. The fossil of dinosaur I saw in British Museum was far better than Mammonth.
However, Super Hi Vision image was fantastic. I, as an image creator, was so surprised because of its quality of image. The image that was shot with the super high vision quality. The image that was screened with the super high vision projector. These two created truely wonderful image.


Electric Power Pavilion
電力館
Japan Pavilion Nagakute. It exhibits Japanese historical items to look back. Family computer that was first TV game reminded me of my youthful days. There was a global screen at the end of this pavilion. Inside of the sphere, we could enjoy 360 degree vision projected all over the sphere wall up, down, right and left. However, it was so short (I thought it was within 5 minutes), and if this was longer than it is, I think this became the most interesting pavilion. One more thing, 360 degree screen was so exciting but the entrance, exit, and the stage we were standing didn't reflect the image of the projector. If they made a screen over the entrance and exit after the door closed, and they made the stage with the clear glass, it was greater and perfect.

次に訪れたマンモス・ラボは今回の万博の目玉の一つである冷凍マンモスの展示を楽しみにしていたのですが、正直冷凍マンモスそのものはいまいちでした。大英博物館で見た恐竜の化石のほうが格段に良かったです。
が、マンモスを見る前にあるNHKのSuper Hi Visionの映像は感動でした。ここまで綺麗な映像が撮れる、そして見れるのか？と、映像作家としての自分が驚愕するほどの映像です。恐ろしいほど解像度の高いカメラを使って撮影された映像。そして恐ろしいほど解像度の高い映写機を使っての投影。この二つが絶妙に絡み合って、本当に素晴らしい映像を作り出していました。

長久手日本館
そして最後に訪れた長久手日本館。日本の近代(最近60年くらい)の歴史を展示品を通して、振り返るといったもの。ファミコンの展示品を見たときには思わず童心に返りました。そして最後に待っているのが球体スクリーンに映し出される映像。球体の中に入り、球体の内壁360度、上下左右全てに映し出される映像によって自分達のいる球体が動いているかの錯覚を受けるのですが、いかんせん上映時間(5分もないと感じた)が短い。これがもっと長い時間あれば、これが一番のパビリオンになっていたかもしれない。もう一ついえば、360度全面スクリーンというのは面白いのだが、出入り口(ドアになっていて、映像が映らない)と自分たちが立っている足元だけは映像を見ることができない。出入り口は封鎖したらそこにスクリーンを立てる、そして足元は全面ガラス張りにしてくれていれば、さらに完成度の高いものになっていただろう。
