This time I'd like to talk about the Drinking Culture.
I noticed this at Nomi-kai last week, there is a huge difference between Japan and USA about Nomi-kai. (There is no technical term about "Nomi-kai".)
Whatever Nomi-kai is, for example, it is club Nomi-kai at university, it is department Nomi-kai of corporation, it is blind date, we, Japanese, usually meet and drink at Japanese drink restaurant. It might be chain restaurant, theme restaurant, in other words, it is called "Nomi-ya".
On the other hand, when it came to USA case, it'll be home-party in most cases. There is no concept of "Nomi-kai" basically, therefore, home-party is only place to drink together. Ofcourse club and bar, which are both seen in Japan and USA, will be excluded.
Thinking this reason, one answer will come to the grond. That is the difference of the way of thinking about job and family. What I mean is following;
There was a difference of habit. In Japan, people go to drink with coworker after job over to share the mood. On the other hand, people go to home to share the time with family.
Surely, it is not applied for all the people, however, I judged it after I saw both countries. It is not so huge about university student, but the difference is so huge in worker case. Home-party is also common in college student case. Looking back last one year, there was a party once a month. There is no other means because there is no Nomi-ya.
The difference of drinking culture was led by the difference of family and job, which was interesting discovery.

さて、今回は日米における"飲み"文化について話してみたいと思います。
先週の飲み会の時に気付いたのですが、日本とアメリカにおいて、飲み会というものに関して大きな差があることに気付きました。
どういうことかというと、日本で飲み会といえば居酒屋ですが、アメリカではホームパーティーが多いということです。(飲み会という表現そのものがないとも言えるか・・・？)
大学のサークル飲み会にしろ、社会人の部門飲み会にしろ、合コンにしろ、日本で飲み会といえば、居酒屋がほとんど。チェーン店だったり、テーマレストランだったり、いわゆる飲み屋で行われるのがほとんどだ。
一方、アメリカで飲み会といえば、ホームパーティーがほとんど。そもそも飲み会という概念がないのだが、皆で飲む場所といえばホームパーティー以外思いつかない。(もちろん、日米に共通で見られるクラブやバーというのは除いてだが・・・)
この理由を考えてみると、一つの答えが導き出される。それは仕事、家族に対する考え方の相違。どういうことかというと、例えば、日本の場合、仕事が終わった後で仕事の苦労を労おうということで飲みに行くが、アメリカの場合、仕事が終わったら早く家に帰って家族との時間を大切にしようという習慣の相違があると思う。
無論、全ての人がそうだとは言わないが、両国を見た自分はそう判断した。大学生においてはそこまでの差があるとは思わないが、社会人についてはこの差が顕著に見られる。また大学生においても、やはりホームパーティーが多い。この1年を振り返ってみると、月に一度はあったように思える。飲みに行こうとしても居酒屋そのものがないのだから、仕方がないといえば仕方がないのだが・・・。
飲み文化の相違が、家族と仕事に対する考え方の違いから発生したものだったというのは、面白い発見でした。
