What I thought through my two visits to EXPO, was that there were a lot of pavilions treating movie or image. This is true for corporate pavilions such as MITSUBISHI, MITSUI/TOSHIBA, and pavilions of each country such as Nagakute Japan, Canada. There were really many image pavilions.
21st century might be the century of the movie. I enjoyed EXPO thinking like that. The progress of CG is amazing. MITSUBISHI pavilion, "What if the moon didn't exist?" uses all CG processed image, which is same situation with Nagakute Japan pavilion. And one more, it is MITSUI/TOSHIBA pavilion. As I mentioned before, our face, which were taken before the main show, came on the screen after CG process not as photograph but as movie.

CG was born from movie industry and it is used now on such form, which makes me happy as a member of the movie industry (I will be in the future).

There are only two pavilions I don't visit yet. HITACHI and the most famous pavilion, TOYOTA. I don't know if I can go or not, but if I had a chance, I would like to visit these two.

さて、2回の万博を通して、思ったこと。映像をテーマにしたパビリオンが非常に多い！！それは三菱館、三井・東芝館といった企業パビリオンにせよ、長久手日本館、カナダ館といった各国パビリオンにしろ、圧倒的なまでに映像が多かった。
21世紀は映像の世紀になるのかもしれない。そんなことを考えながら、楽しむことができたのが2回目の万博です。なんと言っても、CG技術の目覚しさが素晴らしい。三菱未来館における「月がなかったら・・・」の映像は全編CGの映像。長久手日本館の映像も全編CG。そしてもう一つの三井・東芝館、既に書いたように映画上映前に撮影した写真を元にしたCG加工された映像キャラクターとして、映画の本編に登場する。しかも固定画像ではなく、動画として登場するのだから、面白い！
映画産業から始まったCGが発展し、こうした形で使われているということが、映画産業従事者として(将来の予定ではそうなっているはず・・・)、非常に嬉しく思えた。

まだ行ってないパビリオンで行きたいのは後二つ。日立館と大本命のトヨタ館。もう一度いけるかどうかはわかりませんが、もしもう一度行く機会があれば、ぜひともこの二つのパビリオンを訪れてみたいと思います。
