Today's newspaper introduced an interesting column. I'd like to write about this one today.
The topic of the column was the decline in achievement at school.
How many countries, do you think, are taught in world geography at school currently in Japan? 10? The answer is only 3 countries.
First one is USA, the most important country for Japan. Second is one of European countries, which are the second economic power area following USA. The last one is one from same area, Asia.
Besides, one more thing was written there. Only half of university and high school students can answer the location of Iraq. The insistence of the writer against this result was funny. He insisted that half of the students could answer the question even though they were not taught at school, not "only" half. I strongly agree this.
What I thought about this was followings;
In near future, only northern hemisphere might be taught at school in Japan excluding Africa, South America, and Oceania. And in far future, there might be only two countries on the earth, Japan and USA.
It was the beginning of August that I imagined such a world.
