日本の春 |
I came back to USA yesterday after 18 days in Japan. The biggest reason of this return to Japan was my friends wedding. Besides of this, I could enjoy with party with my friends and business trip to Tokyo which was also fun trip.
By the way, I could feel "Spring in Japan" many times.
First of all, it was cherry blossom. Usually, cherry front goes up from Okinawa to Hokkaido, from south-west to north-east. However, this year, they didn't bloom yet in Nagoya even though it already started to fall in Tokyo. This is strange isn't it?
Next was recruit-suits, which means suits that new graduate will put on. I never see this in USA, but this is normal in this season in Japan that we can see a lot of groups all over there. I could see these both in Tokyo and Nagoya, both day and night, in town, and even on Shinkansen-express.
And recruits to companies. Yesterday, I saw a group of people who seemed to be recruits on the train on the way to airport from my house. They seemed to be from country-side, so they used dialects sometimes. They did some conversation such as where they came from, how much they would get as a salary, which seemed very hopeful for me.
Looking at them, I remembered my hope and dream that I had when I came to USA...
P.S.
My flight to Japan was business class because of over-booking, and return flight was also overbooked. However, I couldn't get business class and I got economy plus. But this was still lucky for me...!!

18日間の日本滞在を終えて、昨日アメリカに戻ってきました。今回の滞在は友人の結婚式が一番の目的だったわけですが、それ以外にも帰国時のお約束である友人たちとの飲み、仕事兼遊びの1週間に及ぶ東京滞在と充実した時間を過ごせました。
さて、そんな中、いろんなところで"日本の春"を感じる瞬間がありました。
まずは桜。通常桜前線というのは沖縄から北海道へと南西から北東へと進んでいくはずなのに、今年は東京では既に桜が散り始めていたにも関わらず、名古屋ではまだ咲いていないという変な状況に出くわしました。
次にリクルート・スーツ。アメリカでは決して見ることのない、リクルート・スーツを着た集団を多数見かけるという一種、異様な光景が日本では当たり前のようにあふれているこの季節。これは東京も名古屋も、昼も夜も関係なく、街中に、そして新幹線の中にも常にあふれていました。
そして新入社員。昨日、自宅から空港に向かう途中の電車で新入社員らしき集団を見かけました。地方の高卒らしく、ところどころ方便を使いながら、あどけなさの残る顔で、俺は九州出身だとか、私は四国出身だとか、給料は手取りでいくらもらえるんだろう？とか、希望にあふれた会話をしていました。
そんな彼らを見ながら、アメリカに来た頃に描いていた自分の希望だとか、夢だとか・・・、そういった類の感情を思い出すことができました。
P.S.
行きはオーバー・ブッキングのためにビジネス・クラスだったフライト。帰りもオーバー・ブッキングでしたが、今回は残念ながら、エコノミー・プラス止まりでした。
とはいえ、ラッキーなことには変わりないですが・・・。
