I went to Chicago on business trip. I'd like to introduce some differences between Los Angeles and Chicago that I found.

Difference No.1 =Freeway is not free=

Most of freeways are free in US but there are tollgates on freeway in Chicago and we have to pay toll. The amount is not so expensive but there is heavy traffic jam at tollgates, which is just like Japan.

Differnce No.2 =Driving manner=

Most drivers in Chicago follow the speed limit. Less than 5% cars don't follow the limit while more than 50% cars in LA go over the limit.
The reason of this is because of unmarked patrol car. There are a lot of these when I drive from Chicago to Detroit. I saw normal car caught by unmarked patrol car every half an hour.
Besides, most drivers in LA don't use blinker while drivers in Chicago use it. That is usual in Japan but unusing blinker seems usual in LA.

先週、出張でシカゴに行ってきました。そこで発見したLAとシカゴの違いをいくつか紹介したいと思います。

違い その1 〜高速が有料〜

アメリカの大半の高速が無料なのだが、シカゴの高速には料金所があり、ある一定ポイントで通行料を支払わなければいけない。といっても、金額自体はたいしたことないのだが、料金所で大渋滞。まるで日本の高速です。

違い その2 〜車のマナー〜

シカゴでは制限速度を守っている車がとても多い。たとえどんなに空いていても、制限速度を超えて走っている車は5%もない。それに比べてLAは制限速度を超えて走っている車が50%くらいいるんじゃないのか？ってくらい、速い。
その原因は覆面パトカーが異常に多いからだということに気づいたのはシカゴからデトロイトまで移動した際。30分毎に1台の割合で覆面パトカーに捕まっている一般車を見かけた・・・。
それと、LAのドライバーは曲がる時でもウィンカーを出さない人が多い。一方、シカゴは大半の人がウィンカーを出す。日本で言えば当たり前なのだが、LAでは出さない方が常識なのか？というくらいに出さないのです。
