I went to WBC, World Baseball Classic this Sunday.
WBC Semi Final, Japan vs USA, was the first baseball game to see since I came to US. It was very interesting for me and 20 years have passed since I saw the one last time in my elementary school days.
Matsuzaka got a home run in the first inning and Ichiro couldn't still hit. I thought Japan might lose. However they scored 5 runs in the 4th inning while USA got 2 runs in the 8th inning, which made me nerverous. Ichiro made a hit and added 3 runs at the bottom of that inning.
Darvish closed the game.
Personally it was really exciting moment, the way of yelling for USA at the top of 8th inning. It was just like the way of the concert with rock musician.
When the starting lineup was read, I knew how big the name of ICHIRO is!
Japanese fan responded to all the Japanese players name. But American audience also responded with huge reactions when his name was called while Matsuzaka was not so huge.
Besides, there was the time to show the footage of Japanese major leager among the game. It started with Nomo and went to Shinjo, Sasaki and so on, at the end ICHIRO came up, which made me feel ICHIRO's value in USA.
However, the number of audience was about six-tenth and there were a lot of vacant seats. Compared with World Cup Soccer, it was not satisfactory.
It was a little bit disappinted even though it was the event to decide the world champion.

日曜にWBCを見に行ってきました。
アメリカに来てから初めての野球観戦がWBC準決勝、日本vsアメリカってのが、妙に嬉しく思ったりもしました。というか、日本から含めても、野球観戦って、小学校の時以来20年ぶりくらいでした。
いきなり松坂が初回ホームランを打たれ、イチローも相変わらず、打てず・・・。これは負けるかも？と思っていたら、4回裏に一挙5点で、試合決定！と思いきや、8回表にアメリカが2点を返して、ちょっと焦るも、その裏にイチローが打って、3点を追加。
最後はダルビッシュがリリーフして、勝利。
個人的にに8回表のアメリカの攻撃の時の「USA!」の連呼によるスタンドの盛り上がり方はロック･ミュージシャンのコンサートのノリで、野球を見に来ているのか？それともコンサートに来ているのか？とにかくすごかったです。
でもって、やっぱりイチローは凄いと思ったのが、日本のスタメン発表の時。
日本のファンは日本の選手の誰が名前を呼ばれても反応するのだが、イチローの名前の時だけはアメリカ人も狂喜乱舞。松坂の時はそれほどでもなかった。
やはり彼はここアメリカでもスーパースターなんだと思った。
さらに試合途中で流された映像で、メジャーに在籍したことのある日本人の映像が流された時、野茂から始まり、新庄や佐々木などが流れ、最後のトリがこれまたイチローで、再びアメリカにおけるイチローの凄さを実感。
とはいっても、客の入りは6割前後って感じなのもあってか、サッカーW杯の韓国の試合と比べるとやはり物足りない。
世界一を決める大会でこれはちょっと寂しい気もする。
