January/22/2011 2010-11 Year-crossing trip (Day 6): Then it happened!!

Today I woke up at 8am and supposed to drive all the way to Las Vegas, NV but I was involved in accident... It was just cloudy after departing from Albuquerquee but it became snowy after 30 minutes drive and snowstorm began. So I couldn't see a few feet before... This might be also the annual event.
Then it happened after 3 hour drive from Albuquerquee!!

I drove slowly because the situation was so bad due to snow but the car in front of me spinned out of control and I couldn't avoid it and my car also spinned. I had no injures to my body but my car got impossible to drive. I called police and let it towed to the closest village, Gallup. Because of the insurance of car-rental, they would prepare for new car without any extra charge.
So far, it was ok but the arrival time of new car was 7:30pm at the earliest and it might be tomorrow. Also I had exhausted experience of snow drive 2 years ago, I decided to stay at the motel in Gallup. The lady at the motel told me the highway was closed, so it was impossible to get to Las Vegas tonight anyway.

Also I need to cancel the show "O" at Bellagio hotel that I booked for tomorrow 6:30pm show...
This is because I'm not sure when I can get a new car. Even if I had it today and leave early morning tomorrow, I doubt I can arrive by 6:30 if it snows again. So I had no choice.
Whatever, in case I can't make it tomorrow, where should I have New Year's moment? It will be the worst New Year ever for me...

There were two luckies even in these situations.
The first one was that I could cancel the hotel for tonight for free. It was much expensive because of the end of the year, so it relieved me somehow.
The best luck on me was that the place of accident was close to Gallup. There is a place without anything for an hour drive, so it was a big mercy for me so close to Callup. Actually I was so nervous and lonesome during I waited for the police and I wondered what I can do in case I couldn't get new car, how I can go back to Los Angeles. I really feeze this because Gallup is small town, probably village, and how I can get to the airport or big city.

I really wish tomorrow is sunny day!! (from the very bottom of my heart)

今日は8時起きで一路ラスベガスを目指すはずが、事件に巻き込まれた・・・。アルバカーキを出発した直後は曇っているだけの天候が30分も走ると雪、そして吹雪になり、数m先も見えない状況に・・・。これも年末旅行の恒例行事か？
そしてアルバカーキから3時間ほど走ったところでそれは起きた！

雪道かつ吹雪が舞っている状態なので、当然ゆっくり走っていたのだが、突然前の車がスピン。それをよけきれずに自分の車もスピン。体は特に何も問題なかったのだが、車は走行不能な状態になり、警察を呼び、近くのGallupという村までレッカーしてもらった。レンタカーの保険に入っていたので、追加料金なしで新しい車を用意してくれることになった。
ここまではまだ良かったのだが、レンタカーが届くのが早くても夜7時半、または明日になることもあるとのことで、いずれにせよ雪の夜道を走るのは2年前でコリゴリなので、どうしようか迷ったが最終的にGallupのモーテルに1泊することに・・・。どうやらモーテルの人曰く、ラスベガスに向かう途中でフリーウェイが封鎖されているらしく、いずれにせよ、今夜ラスベガスに行くのは無理だった。

そして明日の18時半から予約していたベラッジオのショー"O"もキャンセルすることに・・・。
というのは新しい車がいつ届くのか明確ではなく、仮に今日中に届いて明日の朝早くに出たとしても、また雪道だと18時半までにつけるかどうか怪しい。というわけで、キャンセルせざるを得なくなった。
というか、明日ラスベガスに着けなかったら年越しはどこで迎えることになるのやら、とりあえず人生最悪の年越しになりそうです・・・。

不幸中の幸いも2つほどあった。
1つ目は今日泊まるはずだったラスベガスのホテルが無料でキャンセルできたこと。年末ということでそれなりに高い料金だったので、助かった。
そして何より幸いだったのがGallupという場所に近かったこと。場所によっては1時間以上何もない場所もあるので、事故現場からGallupまで近かったのは本当に救いだった。というのは、警察が来るまでの待ち時間が非常に心細かったため。待ち時間の間に代車が手配できなかったら、どうやってロスまで帰るのか？真剣に悩んだ。てかGallup自体非常に小さい村なので、空港とか、大都市までどうやって行くのかとか、めちゃめちゃ悩んだ。

明日は晴れてくれ！(心からの叫び)
