Returning from 3 days - 5 nights business trip to Korea on Friday, I went to the bed and the watch said 11am when I woke up but the outside was a bit dark. I noticed that it was Korean time yet and LA was already 7pm, I slept more than 20 hours...
I went to Gwangju in Korea and had a lot of fun.
For example, the convenience stores are one of them. When I tried to buy a rice ball, there is only Korean Alphabet written and also it was covered with sea-weed and couldn't see the inside. Usually rice ball is white rice with some toppings inside like salmon and tuna. However it was Kimchi rice. Also the tea I imagined barley or Oolong tea was not the one I imagined and corn tea, which was disgusting for me. It was like a kind of gamble and also it is the one of a lot of fun in travel.
According to Interpreter, who is a student, there is a cake with tomato topping on it, this might be only in Gwangju..., she ate often when she was young but nowadays she has some negative feeling on this tomato cake and asked me if there is a similar cake in Japan or US. Ofcourse I told her I've never seen or eaten such cake before.
Also I found strange scenery that cars parking on both sides heading same way. I've never seen such parking neither Japan, US nor Europe.
Knowing unknown culture is also the one of the fun on travel.
Returning flight had 8 hours to transfer at Seoul, so I visited one historical landmark by subway in city of Seoul. It was Dongdaemun, the gate of old castle. The area has mixture of both traditional markets and modern buildings.
By the way, my flight arrived at Seoul at 5 am and another flight departed at 7am and I saw the sunrise twice. Both of these were very beautiful, especially the one at Gwangju airport was tremendously nostalgic.
