I just arrived at Japan a few days ago and there is one thing that I think everytime I come back to Japan.
"How convenient to live in Japan!?"
Nobody realizes this true meaning as long as they live only in Japan. Sometime it is the respond to the calls, the number of convenience stores, the subtle difference of the tastes and toilets...
The first thing hits me is toilet. As long as it is Japan domestic, most toilets are equipped with washlet wherever it is like house, hotel, airport and any kinds of public restrooms. However once it goes outside of Japan, it is difficult to find the one. Nothing for public restroom in airports and even luxury hotels don't have.
In USA, people says Japanese toilet seat opens automatically and do greeting but Japanese latest ones do open automatically by sensor.
I found new convenience this time at the bank. There are stands in front of ATM machine, whose height is around the waist and I wonder what's this for? Actually we could put bags on those stands and use ATM with both hands free. It is small concern but it made me feel Japan is wonderful!!
At the end, convenience stores are great. First of all, it's number. We can find those stores at one crossing 3 out of 4 courners and we don't feel we can't find it as long as we live in a certain city. Also the result of competition among these high numbers of stores, we can get cheap but tasty foods. Rice ball and sandwich are surely good while sweets are cheaper and much tasty than cake shops.
In Asia, these Japanese convenience stores are already penetrating and we can find in common. I could find 7 ELEVEN and Familymart in Seoul during 8-hour transfer. However it is less in USA even though some gas stations have but the quality is far worse.
