I went to business trip to New York from 12/12 to 12/15.

Departure at 8:30 am from Los Angeles. I used MK taxi, which is imported from Japan. The car is TOYOTA and there were water and wet wipe in the back seats. This is Japanese super-kind service.
Arriving at New York without any trouble. There are three airports in NY and I arrived at Newark Liberty Airport for the first time ever.

Christmas time in NY, then I must visit here; Rockefeller Center to see the Christmas tree and ice skate rink. It was smaller than I expected but I never imagined that I would experience the scene of "This is America!" here...

There were a lot of people skating but it suddenly became private space and 2 people, man and woman, came out. Then there came another photographer. All of three started to skate according to the song of Aerosmith's "I Don't Want To Miss A Thing". Then the guy dropped his knee and proposed!! She answered yes and there were filled with huge cheer from the people watching this.
If this had happened in the movie, it's too stereotype but when it happened in real world, it touched my heart a lot. In front of the world most famous Christmas tree, on the world most famoust ice skate rink, this special propose were made while a lot of people watching. The man's ability to make this happen including his honesty, finance and ofcourse, the skating skills, was really great and also people's response was also impressive.
America is really great country...

Next Day, I went up to the observatory on top floor of Rockfeller Center. The observatory was consist of 3 floors and the top floor can see the Empire State Building with no glasses and fence. The entrance fee is $25, I think, it's a bit expensive but it's worth. Possibly I'd like to see the view in night.

I went to Ippudo on the 3rd day for the lunch. Ramen was delicious but Char-siu pork bowl was extemely great!! There was mayonnaised sliced cabbage over the rice and they put sliced char-siu pork.

Then on the final day, I checked-out the hotel at 6am so that I could get on the flight of 8:20am. However the PATH train didn't leave from Penn Station due to weekend and I lost 30 minutes there. Then I moved to World Trade Center station and got on PATH train somehow bound for New Jersey Penn Station. Next I needed to take NJ Transit train but next train was 1 hour after even thought it was already 7:10am.

Therefore, I took a taxi to the airport from that station. I arrived at the airport at 7:30am but I couldn't get on the scheduled flight due to overbooking and my flight became another one via Houston.
Original one should arrive at Los Angeles at 11:30am while new flight arrived at 6pm...

So my first Christmas time in New York gave me "This is America!!" in good meaning but I got bad luck at the end...

12月12日から15日まで3泊4日でNYに出張してきました。

LAを8時半の便で出発。近年できたばかりのMKタクシーを初利用。車はトヨタで後部座席には水とお絞りが置いてある。さすが日本のサービスは違う。
何事もなくNYに到着。NYには3つの空港があるのだが、今回初めてニューアーク・リバティー空港を利用した。

ニューヨークのクリスマスと言えば、ここ！ってことでロックフェラー・センターのツリーとスケート・リンクを見に行った。予想していたよりも小さいスケート･リンクだったのだが、ここでThis is America!な光景を目にしようとは思ってもいなかった。

それまで多くの人が滑っていたリンクが突然貸切の状態になり、2人の男女が登場。そしてカメラを持った男性も登場し、3人で滑り始めると同時にエアロ・スミスの"I Don't Want To Miss A Thing"が流れ出す。そして男性が氷の上にひざまずいて女性にプロポーズ！それに答える女性。周囲から大歓声があがる。
映画だったらベタベタな展開なのだが、現実世界でこれを目の当たりにすると、やはり感動する。世界一有名なツリーの前で、世界一有名なスケート・リンクを貸し切って、大勢の人に見守られた中でのプロポーズ。それを実行できる男の誠実さと財力、そしてスケート技術(滑れなかったらせっかくの演出が台無しだ・・・)、さらにそれに答える観衆。
やっぱり凄い国だ、アメリカは・・・。

翌日はロックフェラー・センターの最上階の展望台に上った。展望台は3階層になっており、最上階は柵もガラスもない状態でエンパイア・ステート・ビルを眺めることができる。ただし入場料は$25と高いが、それだけの価値はある。できれば夜景も見てみたい。

3日目は福岡が本店のラーメン屋一風堂でランチ。ラーメンはもちろんだがチャーシュー丼が激ウマ！ご飯の上にキャベツの千切りにマヨネーズを和えたものが乗っていて、その上にチャーシューを細かく切ったものが乗っている。

そして最終日、朝8時20分のフライトだったので6時にホテルを出発したのだが、PATHトレインという電車が週末のせいか、予定していたペン・ステーション出発の電車はないと言われ、30分のロス。ワールド・トレード・センター駅まで移動し、PATHトレインに乗り、ニュージャージ・ペン・ステーションへ。そこからNJトランジットという電車に乗るのだが、次の電車が1時間後の出発！この時点で既に7時10分。

というわけで急遽タクシーで空港へ向かう。7時半に空港に着いたのだが、オーバー・ブッキングのため、ヒューストン経由のフライトに回されてしまった。
午前11時半にLA到着の予定が最終的に18時に到着となった・・・。

というわけで初のクリスマス・シーズンのNYは、最初にアメリカの良い意味でのパワーを感じたものの、最後にケチが付きました・・・。
