One day in October, 5 days after returning back from business trip to New York, suddenly it became that I had to go to business trip.
The departure would be next day! Then I booked air-ticket and hotel in a second. After I got back to the home, I packed my baggage in less than 30 minutes. I thought I was really accustomed to travel by myself... Next day, I got on board 10pm flight and made it for Sydney in Australia for the first time in 13 years.

It was amazing view of Sydney bay that I could see from the window of the airplane right before the landing. Besides the sea surface under the Harbor Bridge reflected the sunlight, which added the wonderful spotlight to the beautiful scenery.

There was no problem at the immigration. I had imagined I would feel some nostalgic emotion since it had been 13 years from my last visit however there was no time to feel anything because of business trip. I spent 3 hours at the airport to do emails since I arrived at 6am.

There were some issues regarding credit card on check-in at the hotel, and no Internet connections. After 1 hour discussion, I could solve these problems somehow.

It was 5 days 4 nights trip. I became the bread store-goers for 3 days for breakfast, which located close to the hotel. There were a variety of breads that I've never seen such as mushroom stew bread and imitate crab meat bread, and everything was great! On the 3rd day, I became the steady customer and the store staff talked to me "You came back again!?" surprisingly...
Another store I went a lot was McDonalds. There was a ice cream cone, which was 30 cents. I always bought this before I got back to the hotel every night.

There was no time for sightseeing during day time due to my job and the only time I could walk around was after 8pm and the morning of the last day. However I could enjoy Sydney after 13 years absence.
There were fireworks after 9:30pm at the opposite shore of Darling Harbor and another fireworks could be seen next day in North Sydney, which was my first fireworks in the Antipodes.

When it comes to North Sydney, I visited the location where CHAGE & ASKA, Japanese famous singer, shot thier promotio video of "SAY YES". It was an amusement park called Luna Park. It was closed 13 years ago and it was my first time to enter the park. But there was no entrance fee and we would pay the fee for each ride. The amusement park at night was really mystic and it made the pleasant ambience of old Hollywood films which had a lot of old rides. It was as if I got into the world of Hollywood movies.

I listened the song "SAY YES" there as I had done 13 years ago. It was Walkman at that time but now it became iPad, which made me feel the passage of time.

Opera House also broght me nostalgic feeling to me. Even though it was my 2nd visit, it made me excited a lot! It was not registered yet last time but now it becomes World Heritage, which increased its value. You're really photogenic, Mr. Opera House!!
Also the road to Mrs.Macquaries Point showed the wonderful views explaining the reason why this is considered as one of the 3 most beautiful harbor in the world, which was made from the difference of the angle between Opera House and Harbor Bridge in every 5-meter.

I visited a lot of cities all over the world but there were not so many cities that I'd like to visit again. However Sydney is the one of these cities.

I wonder when I can come back to here for the next time...

10月下旬、NY出張から戻って5日後のある日。急遽海外出張が決定。
離陸日は明日！ってことで、すぐにホテルと航空券を予約し、帰宅後30分もかからずパッキング完了。旅慣れたものだと自分でも思う・・・。翌日、LA22時発の飛行機に乗り、向かった先は13年ぶりのオーストラリアはシドニー。

到着寸前に飛行機の窓から見えたシドニー湾の綺麗さときたら、素晴らしいの一言に尽きる。しかも太陽光が丁度ハーバー・ブリッジのかかっている真下の海面に反射していて、ただでさえ素敵な風景に最高のスポットライトを照らしてくれた。

特に問題もなく入国完了。13年ぶりということで感慨深いものがあるかと思っていたが、出張ということでそんなものを感じる暇もなく、朝6時到着ということもあって、街に出る前に空港で3時間ほどメールのやり取りをした。

ホテルのチェックイン時にクレジットカード絡みのトラブルやインターネットがつながらないなどの問題があったが、1時間かけて両方とも何とかクリア。一安心。

4泊5日の旅だったのだが、朝食は3日間ホテルの近くにあったパン屋に通い詰めた。マッシュルーム･シチュー・パンや蟹カマパンなど他では見たこともないパンが並んでいるのだが、どれも外れがない。3日目にはもう常連となり、店員さんも顔を覚えていて、「また来たの！？」って会話が始まるほどだった。
もう1つ常連となったのが、マックのソフトクリーム、30セント(30円くらい)。毎晩ホテルに帰る前に購入していた。
(こちらも常連といえば常連だったが、さすがに客の数が多いし、レジの人間も毎日違ったので、顔なじみまでにはなれなかったな・・・)

昼間は仕事のため、散策できたのは夜8時以降と最終日の午前中のみだったが、ダーリング･ハーバーをはじめ、13年前と変わらない街並みを堪能することも出来た。
ダーリング･ハーバーでは9時半を回ると湾の対岸で花火が上がり、翌日ノース･シドニーを訪れた際も違う場所で花火が上がっており、人生初の南半球での花火も満喫できた。

ノース・シドニーと言えば、チャゲアスが"SAY YES"のPVを撮影した場所に13年ぶりに行ってきた。LUNA PARKという遊園地を散策。13年前は閉まっていたので、初の入園。といっても入園料は無料で、乗り物ごとに料金を支払う昔の日本の遊園地スタイル。夜の遊園地はとても神秘的で、昔のハリウッド映画に出てきそうな、良い意味で古い乗り物が一杯で楽しそうな雰囲気。使い古された言葉を使うならハリウッド映画の世界に入り込んだ感じだ(USJじゃなくて、古き良き時代のハリウッド映画)。

13年前と同じくSAY YESを聴きながら散歩をしていたのだが、13年前はWalkmanだったのが、今はiPadになっている。時の流れを感じずにはいられない・・・。

でもって、オペラ・ハウスも懐かしさ満天！2度目の訪問にも関わらず、やはりテンションが上がる。前に来た時はそうではなかったが、今や世界遺産にも登録され、その価値を増すばかり。本当にどの角度から撮っても絵になるね、君は！
ミセス・マックフォリー・ポイントへと向かう道は、5m歩いただけで変わるオペラハウスとハーバー・ブリッジの織り成す角度の違いによるマジックが世界三大美港のひとつに数えられるその理由を説明してくれる。

今まで世界中、いろんな都市を訪れたが、その中でももう一度来たいと思える都市というのはそんなに多くない。しかしこのシドニーはまたいつか来たいと思える都市の1つです。
