I found another interesting thing in this class. This school or Los Angeles has a lot of people concering the movie industry. (There is a proverb that if you throw a stone, it will hit movie person.) Some of class mates have experiences in Hollywood. Some of them worked for actors, one of them will on the movie "Pirates of Caribbean 2", some of them worked for editors. More than half of our class seemed to work in this winter semester.
I wondered why they came back to school nonetheless they have a job. This is not only for movie but for other subjects. This is not common in Japan but it is common in USA.
In this point, it is true that university and college in USA are the place to study for their future, while Japanese university and college are the place to enjoy free time before they enter the society called "overtime-work."

I wish I can learn what I need in this school for my future.

このクラスではもうひとつ面白いことに気付きました。この学校、もしくはロサンゼルスには映画産業に関わっている人が多いということです。(石を投げれば映画人に当たるという格言もあるそうです。)クラスメートの何人かはハリウッドで働いた経験を持っていました。役者として働いていたり(そのうちの一人は「パイレーツ・オブ・カリビアン2」に出演することが決まっています・・・)、編集者として働いていたり。特にこの冬セメはクラスの半分以上が社会人であったように思います。
仕事を持っているにも関わらず、なぜ学校に戻ってくるんだろうと不思議に思いました。これは映画学部だけに関する話ではなく、ほかの学部であっても同じ状況です。日本ではまだ珍しいですが(自分が日本にいたときの学部には二人ほどいましたが・・・)、アメリカでは普通のことです。
この点において、日本の大学は"残業"という名の社会に入る前の自由時間を楽しむ場所であるのに対して、アメリカにおける大学というのは将来に備えて勉強する場所だというのがすごく伝わってきました。

自分も将来に備えて必要なことを学んでいきたいと思います。
