By the way,UCR Extension is quite unique compared to my current school LACC or Nagoya University where I graduated from in Japan. The reason I mentioned this, UCR locates on rural area, then there is no place to play after school. So there is almost nothing to do on weekday except one thing. That is to have conversations with friends. If UCR locates on urban area, we can hang out everywhere alone or with friends as I did in Nagoya University or LACC.
There is another uniqueness. That is the system that new comer appears and some graduate from UCR Extension every three-months. Three months at UCR equals to one year of usual school, which makes groups among students. These groups consist of students who are in same session. If this happens in every year, it is same with Nagoya University, and if this occurs in every six-months, it's same with LACC. Because of the difference of these grade, relationship weighs a lot at UCR in both good way and bad way. For example, closeness among group members gets high because of lack of things to play and enjoy except to talk. On the other hand, the difference of temperature among each group also gets bigger. Furthermore, new groups comes out every three months, which cause faction easily.
In a sense, it is closed environment, the world is small. For example, the rumor that somebody loves somebody else spreads really quickly (and these kind of rumor are almost true). I think this also affect to faction indirectly.

ところで、今自分が通っているLACCと比べてUCRのエクステンションは非常に特異だ。おそらく日本で通っていた名大と比べてもUCRは異常だ。というのもUCRは田舎(といってもド田舎ではないが・・・)にあるため、授業後に遊ぶ場所がない。そのため、平日の授業後は仲間同士で喋る以外にほとんどやることがない(本当にそれ以外にやることがないという意味ではない・・・)。UCRがもっと都会であれば、名大やLACCと変わりなく、一人でも集団でも遊びに行くことができる。
また3ヶ月ごとに新入生が入ってきたり、卒業していったりするという変則的な学期制度。3ヵ月が通常の学校の1年、1学年と同じと考えると、3ヶ月ごとに学年が異なるといった感じで、3ヶ月ごとにグループが固まってしまう。これが1年ごとであれば、名大となんら変わりはないし、半年ごとであればLACCと変わりない。
しかし、これらが異なっているが故にUCRというところは、良い意味でも、悪い意味でも人間関係というのがものをいう。例えば、UCRは平日は仲間同士で喋る以外にやることがないために、グループの親密度はすごく高くなる。その逆にグループ間の温度差も大きくなる。しかも、3ヶ月という短いペースで新しいグループが出現するので、グループ間での派閥争い的なものが発生しやすい。
それとある意味で閉ざされた環境なので、世界が狭い。例えば、誰かが誰かのことを好きだ、なんていう噂話はすごい速さで広まる(大抵の場合は、噂ではなく真実である)。これも間接的ではあるが派閥争いにつながっているのかもしれない。
