Yesterday, I rambled about Nagoya city which has been changed due to international exhibition.
The first place I visited was Sakae district where is downtown Nagoya. There were a lot of changes. Ferris wheel appears in the center of Sakae, Rahmen noodle Town, which is in fashion all over the country, also appears, new annex of Mitsukoshi department store comes up, and COACH's original shop opens, which leads to the situation of successive opening of brand shops.
Looking at these new shops, I remembered the greatness of OASIS21 that is air garden. OASIS 21 opened before I went to USA, but there was no fade about this OASIS.
Regarding new opened Ferris wheel, I thought this is the very way of Nagoya at a glance. Usually, Ferris wheel has colorful appearance with color painting. However, this one is united in one color: silver. It is matching with the color of the building behind; it is simple in good way while it is plain in bad way. This symbolizes "Nagoya" that has created original culture without affected by others.

昨日、万博開催で大きく変わった名古屋市を散策してきました。
まず最初に訪れたのは栄地区。名古屋市最大の繁華街です。変わった点といえば、観覧車ができたこと、全国各地で流行しているラーメン街ができたこと、三越というデパートの別館ができたこと、そしてCOACHの専門店がOPENし、ブランドの専門店が乱立の様相を呈してきたことでしょうか？
これら新規OPENの店を見て改めて感じたのがオアシス21という空中庭園の素晴らしさ。これは渡米前からあったものだが、全く時代の色褪せを感じさせなかった。
それと新規OPENした観覧車だが、一目見て、いかにも名古屋らしいと感じた。というのも、普通観覧車といえば、何らかの色が塗装されており、見た目が華やかなのだが、この観覧車は写真を見てもらえればわかるように、銀色一色。ビルの色と統一されていて、良く言えば非常にシンプル、悪く言えば質素・・・な感じが、周囲に流されずに自己流の文化を発祥してきた"名古屋"という感じをいかにも象徴していた。
