According to this declaration, Uruguay, that was 100th anniversary of their country's foundation, hosted 1st World Cup, and Uruguay got the first championship in history. "June 31" became national holiday in honor of the championship in Uruguay.
After that, it underwent two time interruptions because of World War II. World Cup counts its 18th time with this Germany 2006, and became international event that about 200 countries partcipate in.
