2nd game was between Portugal, 1st place in group D, and Netherlands, 2nd place in group C. This European countries match became battle royal.

Right after the game began both team kept attacking without giving way and Portugal got a goal in 23rd minutes. However, right after this goal, Cristiano Ronaldo, who is the young star in Portugal, went out because of injury. Then Netherlands got much dominant than Portugal and right before the 1st half end Portuguese player got 2nd yellow card in this game and they had to wait for 2nd half with 11 by 10.

Netherlands still kept attacking with the advantage of number while Portgual sometimes showed counterattack. However, both goal keepers showed great savings a lot and they didn't give additional goal. In 63rd minutes, Dutch player got 2nd yellow card in reverse. Before and after this foul-out, sysmptom of the dirty mood came out. Finally, 78th minutes and extra time one of each Portuguese and Dutch player fouled out and the game was played out by 9 by 9.

In total of both teams, 4 foul-out and 16 yellow cards, including no.1 star player Figo, was presented in this game and Portugal won this battle royal. But they have to fight with England in quarter-final without 2 starting members. Even if they win next game, they have high possibility to miss other players in semi-final in case they get yellow card in that match. Therefore, it seems impossible for Portugal to go to final.

試合開始直後から両者一歩も譲らぬ激しい攻防を続け、前半23分ポルトガルが均衡を破った。しかしその直後、ポルトガルの若手スター、クリスチャーノ･ロナウドが負傷退場し、オランダがやや優位に立ち、さらに前半終了間際、ポルトガルの選手がこの試合、2枚目のイエロー･カードをもらい、後半は11対10の戦いに・・・。
後半もオランダが攻勢のまま、試合は進むが、ポルトガルも時折、反撃を見せる。しかし両チームのGKがともに素晴らしいプレーを見せ、追加点を許さない。後半18分、今度はオランダの選手が2枚目のイエローで退場。この前後から体の接触による、ファールが多発し、試合が荒れる兆候が漂いはじめる。そして後半33分、そしてロスタイムにそれぞれ、ポルトガル、オランダの選手が1人ずつ退場し、9人対9人の試合になった。

両チーム合わせて、退場者4人、イエロー16枚(両チーム1のスター、フィーゴも含まれる)、という乱戦を制したポルトガルはスタメンの2人を欠いた状態で、準々決勝のイングランド戦に挑まなくてはならなくなった。しかも勝ったとしても、イングランド戦でイエロー･カードをもらう選手がいれば、準々決勝に出場できなくなる可能性が高く、決勝まで勝ち残るのは非常に難しそうだ。
