Right after the 2nd half began, Argentina who shot no shoot in 1st half got the 1st goal from corner kick! This goal changed the game.
Germany couldn't pass the ball in 1st half but they became well in passwork because of Argentine loss of their stamina. Germany control the game in contrast with 1st half. But Germany couldn't carry the ball to the goal area just like Argentina didn't in 1st half.
The rest of time counted last 10 minutes and I started to wonder if Germany might lose. Right at that moment, Ballack sent the ball to the center from left side and Borowski ran into and turned the ball direction to backward with heading. Then Close who is the top scorer so far came to shoot and sticked the ball into goal net!!

The mood went toward that Germany took in the current of the game and was going to win from behind, but they did miss-trap and miss-pass one after another, which destroyed the mood to win. And the game went into overtime.

1st overtime, both team did no shoot into goal mouse, and there was no attractive scenes. 2nd overtime, Ballck got a cramp in his leg, and took treatment out of the ground. During his treatment, German defenders did incredible miss-pass and they must confront with the critical moment but they could survived somehow. Then, game continued into penalty shootout.

そして後半開始早々、前半シュート"0"だったアルゼンチンがコーナー・キックから先制！このゴールがきっかけとなり、試合が大きく動き出す。
前半ほとんどボールをまわせなかったドイツだが、アルゼンチンが疲れたのか、ボールが回るようになり、前半とは打って変わって、ドイツがボールを支配。しかし、前半のアルゼンチン同様、ゴール前までボールを運ぶことができず、時間だけが過ぎていく。
ゲームを支配したまま残り時間が10分となり、ドイツが負けるのか？という考えが少し頭の中に浮かび始めた瞬間、バラックが左サイドから中央にセンタリング。ボロウスキがうまく頭で後ろへとボールをそらしたところへ、現在大会得点王のクローゼが走りこみ、ヘディングでゴールへ突き刺した！！

このままドイツが流れを呼び込み、逆転勝ちをするような雰囲気になるところで、自陣ゴール前でトラップ・ミスやパス・ミスを連発し、自分たちで流れを壊してしまう。そして試合は延長戦へ。

延長前半は両チームとも枠内へのシュートがなく、これといった見せ場もないまま、延長後半へ突入。後半に入り、バラックが途中で足をつり、ピッチ外で治療を受ける。その間に、ドイツDFが自陣ゴール前で信じられないパス・ミスをし、あわやという場面を迎えるが、なんとかそのピンチを切り抜け、試合はPK戦へ。
