夢想バス |
It happened on the bus I rode on.
There might be a lot of tourists because of summer vacations. In Japan, it is usual to do the announcement of next stop but it is not in USA. However, it was done unusually not by machine but by the driver. (Newest type bus has a electric bulletin board to indicate next stop...)
I was listening to the music but I took off the earphone to hear the announcement because other passengers response was strange. Then I could hear the announcement "next stop is Universal Studio followed by another explanation "You should go because you came to the capital of the movie, Los Angeles..."
But next stop wasn't Universal Studio. The line, rather, didn't go through the Universal.
Besides, there was another one "next will be Disney Land". Passangers were excited by the announcement. Was this announcement of daydream-bus a kind of customer service or just a hobby of the driver?
Whichever it was, I was absorbed in not music but in announcement. I imagined where would be the next stop? A lot of places hit on me.
Santa Monica, Beverlly Hills, or surpriseing LAX? After that, I expected such as 10 years after or 10 years ago just like "Back To the Future". But next stop was common place, Western where I usually get off.
My daydream-bus trip was over and I was pulled back to reality but I'd like to wait for the next chance to ride on this driver's bus to enjoy "Back to the Future".

今日乗ったバスでの出来事。
夏休みということで、旅行者が多かったのだろうか？日本では次の停車駅を告知するアナウンスは当たり前だが、アメリカではあまり行われることのない車内アナウンスを珍しくしていた(新型のバスはアナウンスといえるかどうかわからないが、電光掲示板に次の停車場所が表示されるようになった・・・)。機会ではなく、運転手が直に・・・。
自分は音楽を聴いていたのだが、乗客の反応がおかしいので、イヤホンを外してアナウンスを聞いてみた。すると「次はユニバーサル･スタジオ」というアナウンス。しかもその後に「映画の都、ロサンゼルスに来たからには行かないと・・・」的な解説が続く。
しかし、次の停車はユニバーサルではないし、それどころかその路線はユニバーサルを通っていない。
さらに「次はディズニーランド」のアナウンスが流れた。乗客がどっと沸く！この夢想バスのアナウンスは一種の顧客サービスだろうか？それともただ単なる運転手の趣味だろうか？
いずれにせよ、自分は音楽ではなく、車内アナウンスに聞き入るようになった。次はどこに止まるのだろう？と頭の中でいろいろな場所を駆け巡った。
サンタモニカ？ビバリー・ヒルズ？それとも意表をついて、ロサンゼルス空港？その後、自分の中では10年後とか、10年前とかといった「バック･トゥ･ザ･フューチャー」的なものを期待したりもしたが、次の停車場所はWesternという自分が降りる、いつもどおりの何の変哲もないバス停の名前でした。
そこで自分の夢想バスの旅は終わり、さらに思いっきり現実に引き戻される終わり方となってしまったが、きっとまたいつかこの運転手のバスに乗って、"バック･トゥ・ザ･フューチャー"できる日を楽しみにしたいと思います。
