I encountered heart-warming episode today. My company makes it a rule that intern comes to the office according to the day of the week. It was the last day for my co-worker because he'll go back to Japan the day after tomorrow. Another co-worker who works on another day of the week, came all the way to the office just to say good-bye even though she didn't own a car so she took the bus.

This was not unusual long time ago in Japan. But it is unusual nowadays. So I was impressed by this behavior and I remembered my last day in IBM.
I went around the office and my customers to say good-bye, and then I sent e-mails to the people I concerned on the business. Then, I got the call from one of my boss and one of my ex-customer just to say good-bye & cheer. They were really nice to me when I worked together.
Everytime I went back to Japan, we meet and drink together.

I wonder if two co-worker might drink together in Japan when both are in Japan...
And I also wonder if I can make a such buddy in here, USA from now on.

今日、心温まるエピソードに出会った。 自分がインターンをしている会社は曜日ごとにインターンの人が決まっている。そのうちの同僚1人が明後日、帰国するため今日が最終日だった。そこに忙しいスケジュールの合間を縫って、別の日に働いているもう1人の同僚が挨拶をするためだけにやってきたのだ。しかも彼女は車を持っておらず、わざわざバスに乗ってやってきたのだ。

これは昔の日本では珍しいことではなかったのだろうが、最近では珍しいことになっているような気がする。それでこの行為に対して、ちょっと感動してしまった。そしてIBM時代の最終日のことを思い出した。
その日、自分はオフィスとお客様のところに挨拶回りをして、その後、仕事で携わった人たちにeメールを出した。そして以前の上司と以前のお客様から電話がかかってきて、さよならの挨拶と励ましの声をかけてくれた。一緒に働いていた当時は2人とも、とてもよくしてくれていた。
今では、日本に帰ったときはいつも会って、酒を交わす仲になった。

2人の同僚も日本で会って、酒を交わすような仲になるのだろうか？
そして自分がそんな関係になるような人が、今後アメリカでも現れるのだろうか？
