Today is the halfway mark of this trip. I slept over 1 hour longer than usual and woke up at 7am. I stopped by visitor center and found the post of the form of R2D2 in the movie Star Wars. Then I went to UFO Museum!
Someone told UFO museum is must-see spot just like Statue of Libery in New York. That was true because there was nothing special except this museum in Roswell... It was similar size with gym at elementary or middle school and had various displays such as the article of UFO crash and introductions of films and TV featuring Roswell. I could enjoy this museum after all. I stayed there for an hour.

On the way to White Sands National Monument, I passed by the town of Billy the Kid and I encountered with a bear in the restroom. I was surprised and laughed the most in this trip.

Originally I thought White Sands is just a white sand dunes and I would be tired in an hour. However it was really fan and I stayed there for 3 hours.
What brought the fan to me was walking on the trail. There were only 2 colors, blue sky and white sand dunes, which made my sense of direction lost. I wanted to take photos of ripple mark on dunes but there were someone's footprint on all over the dunes. It took a lot of times to walk around the trail. Everytime I climbed up the dune, I could find different ripple mark, plants.

On the way to Albuquerque where I stayed that night, I saw mysterious phenomena. It was sunset and made rainbow color at the edge of cloud with the reflection. Is this something from Roswel mystery?

By the way I met Japenese for the first time on this trip. Family of 4 was at UFO museum and also another family of 4 was at White Sands. Why on earth I met Japanese at remote countryside? Is this also the curse of Roswell?

折り返し地点の4日目。今日はいつもより1時間多めに寝て、7時起き。朝起きて、途中ビジターセンターに立ち寄り、スター・ウォーズのR2D2型ポストを発見！でもって、UFO博物館へ！
ロズウェルに来て、UFO博物館に行かないのは、NYに行って自由の女神を見ないのと同じだと誰かが言ったらしいが、それもそのはず、UFO博物館以外に観光するようなところがない・・・。でもって博物館の中は日本の小・中学校の体育館くらいの広さの中に、いろんな展示物があり、UFO墜落の記事からロズウェルを舞台にした映画やTVドラマの紹介まで幅広い。まぁなんだかんだで1時間もいたので、個人的には十分楽しめた。

そしてホワイトサンズ国定公園に向かう途中、ビリー・ザ・キッドの故郷という場所の近くを通った。そこで熊と遭遇！しかもトイレで・・・。いや驚いた、そして笑った。この旅で一番笑った。

そしてホワイトサンズは、ただの白い砂丘だから、1時間もいれば飽きるだろうと思っていたが、これがまたことのほか、楽しかった。結局3時間も滞在してしまった。
何が楽しいって、トレイル歩き。一面空の青と砂丘の白の2色の世界で方向感覚が狂う。風紋の写真を撮りたかったのだが、簡単に行けるところはどこもかしこも誰かが歩いた跡があり、この当てのないトレイル歩きに時間を取られたのが、一つ砂丘を越えるごとに風紋が違ったり、植生が変わったり、それがとても楽しかった。

本日の宿、アルバカーキへ向かう途中、不思議な自然現象を見た。日没の時間帯、雲に反射した太陽光が虹色になっていたのだ。これもロズウェル帰りの成せる技か？

そういえば、今日はこの旅で初めて日本人に出くわした。UFO博物館では子供2人を連れた4人組の家族、ホワイトサンズでも同じく4人組の別の家族。どうしてこんな辺鄙な場所で出会うのか、これまたロズウェルの呪縛のようなものか？
