December/17/2011 Travel to the World Heritage around Mexico City =Day 3=

Day 3, woke up at 8:30am.
I visit one place that is not official World Heritage but it is worth registering personally.

It was 1986, FIFA World Cup quarter-final, England vs Argentina. 2 goals, all the soccer fans know, "Hand of God" and "60meter dribble" were born here, legendary soccer stadium, Aztec Stadium.

Tour took 75 minutes and they gave us a printed photo at the end that the guide took during the tour. I was surprised at this since there were no place to be prohibited taking photos through the entire tour and most Japanese people have digital camera or cell phone with camera and such service never be required. This means digital camera is still expensive in Mexico and it's not common to have it yet.
Actually there are a lot of beggers in trains and buses because they must do to live. Those made me feel the huge difference between advanced nations and Mexico City, the capital of one country with 20 million people.

Leaving the stadium at 1pm and went to Chapultepec Park. Its vast grounds are fullfilled with various spots to see including castle and museum.
First, I visited Capultepec Castle where the president of Mexico lived before. The castle was on the top of the hill and took 20 minutes walk from the foot. Again, I came in gasps because of highland. Since Spain governed before, it reminded me Palace of Versailles in Paris and Neuschwanstein Castle in Germany. However this castle is lack in gorgeousness compared with these two and I felt similarity with US state capitols.

Left the castle and took a lunch in the park. I tried tacos since I was in Mexico and felt I had to eat some mexican foods. Actually I tried tacos a couple of times in US but it's not my taste. However it was so good to eat tacos in its home. It was soooooo nice to eat tacos with alcohol outside!!

Then I went to National Museum of Anthropology. All the mexican ancient civilizations meet in this museum. We can see everything from Teotihuacan I visited yesterday to Maya, Aztec. They tried to deceive extra 50 peso when I paid admission. It was big surprise for me since the museum is national management, this is Mexico!
The exhibitions are so great and personally this museum is the world best museum more than British Museum and the Louvre, I had visited both of these already.
The most attractive one was the colored-replica of The Temple of Feathered Serpent, which brought me to the ancient era again.

It was already dark when I got out of the museum. I walked through the park and went to Hard Rock Cafe. I had considered the pin was cheap since prices were low. But the price was much expensive than Japan. The National Theater I stopped by on the way to subway station was so huge, which seemed the capacity with more than a couple of 10 thousands. I also saw a Christmas tree for the first time this year.

時は1986年、メキシコW杯、準々決勝イングランドvsアルゼンチン。サッカー･ファンなら誰もが知っている"神の手"と"5人抜き"、伝説の舞台となったアステカ・スタジアム。
ツアーは1時間15分で、グランドにてガイドさんが持っていたデジカメで撮った写真をツアーの最後にもらえるのだが、これを知って少し驚いた。というのはツアー中、写真撮影不可の場所はなかったし、日本ではデジカメは大半の人が持っているだろうし、持ってなくても、携帯に付いているから、このサービスはあり得ない。逆に言うと、メキシコではまだデジカメは多くの人が持っているものではなく、高級なものなのだということ。
思い返せば、電車やバスの中の物売りもそれをしないと明日の生活もままならないということ。いくら2000万人の人口が集まる一国の首都であっても、先進国との差はかなり大きいのだと痛感させられた。

スタジアムを13時に後にし、チャプルテペック公園へ。広大な敷地の中に、お城や博物館など見所が詰まっている。
まずは昔の大統領の住居であったチャプルテペック城へ向かう。小高い丘の上に建つお城へは麓から徒歩20分ほど坂道を登るとたどり着く。しかしやはり高地のため、息が切れる。スペインの支配下だったこともあり、フランスのベルサイユ宮殿やドイツのノイシュバンシュタイン城と似た雰囲気を持ち、かなり広大ではあるが、この2つと比べるとやはり豪華さに欠ける。どちらかというとアメリカの各州の州議事堂の雰囲気を思い起こさせる。

お城を出て、公園内で昼食。せっかくメキシコに来たので、メキシコらしいものを食べようということでタコスに挑戦。実はアメリカで何度かタコスを食べたことがあるのだが、正直あまり好きではない。しかし本場だからトライしてみようと食べたところ、これが美味しかった。昼間からお酒のつまみとして、アウトドアで食べるタコスは最高です！

続いて同じ公園内にある国立人類学博物館を訪れた。メキシコの古代文明が一同に介したと言っても過言ではない博物館である。昨日訪れたテオティワカンからマヤ文明、アステカ文明まで見られる。しかし入場時に博物館で50ペソごまかされそうになった。こういう公営の場所でもだまされるのか！？さすがメキシコだ！



展示品はオーパーツや古代文明大好きな自分としてはイギリスの大英博物館やフランスのルーブル美術館を超えて自分が訪れたMuseumとしては世界最高のMuseumだ(英語では博物館と美術館を区別せず、大英博物館もルーブル美術館もともにMuseum)。
中でも昨日見たばかりのテオティワカンのケツァルコアトルの神殿の色付きレプリカは昔はこんな色をしていたのか？と再び古代へと思いを馳せた。








博物館を出る頃には外はもう真っ暗。そのまま公園を歩き、旅の目的の1つであるHRCへ。物価が安いので、さぞかしピンも安いのだろうと思っていたら、日本以上の値段で驚いた。帰りがけに通った国立劇場はとても巨大な劇場で数万人は入る規模だと思われる。そして今年初のクリスマス・ツリーもここで見させてもらった。
