This is 4th successive year-crossing trip and the theme of this time is tracing the history of America, visiting Boston, Baltimore and Philadelphia.

Departing from Los Angeles at 8:30am and arrived at Boston past 5pm. It was already dark outside. This day was Christmas day and the announce told "Merry Christmas!" at the end and passangers replied "Merry Christmas!", too. USA is great!!

I checked in the hotel via subway from the airport. Left my baggage and went out for the town. I went to downtown and enjoyed the christmas illumination. It was much beautiful than Los Angeles according to the place.

The first impression of Boston - Mysteious town that blending traditional masonry and modernistic reinforced building.
Old State House is the trpical one, all the other building are modernistic skyscrapers except the traditional Old State House.

Most stores & restaurants are closed on Christmas Day just like Japanese New Year's Day and I wondered where I should take dinner and I found China Town on the guide book! I imagined Chinese wouldn't close on Christmas Day, and they did open. (Actually it was not Chinese but Vietnamese) I ordered seafood fried rice, fresh spring roll and coconut shake.
I went to bed soon after getting back to the hotel.

年末恒例年越し旅行第4弾、今回はアメリカ東海岸でアメリカの歴史を感じる旅・・・ってことでボストン、バルチモア、フィラデルフィアの3都市を巡った。

朝8時半の飛行機でロサンゼルスを発ち、ボストンに着いたのが、17時過ぎ。外は既に真っ暗。今日はクリスマス当日ということで、飛行機のアナウンスも最後にメリークリスマス！が添えられ、乗客もそれに答えるかのようにメリークリスマス！を返す。アメリカ万歳！

空港から地下鉄を乗り継いで、ホテルへチェックイン。そして荷物を置いて、街へ繰り出す。とりあえずダウンタウンへと向かい、クリスマス・イルミネーションを楽しんだ。場所によってはロサンゼルスよりも綺麗なイルミネーションを楽しめた。

ボストンの第一印象 - 歴史を感じさせる石造建築と近代的な鉄筋建築が融合する不思議な町。
旧州議事堂などはまさにそれで、議事堂以外の周囲の建物はすべて近代的な高層建築。

そしてアメリカのクリスマス当日は、日本の元旦のように大半の店が休みになるので、夕飯はどうしようか？と思っていたが、ガイドブックを見るとチャイナタウン発見！中国ならクリスマスも関係ないだろうと行ってみると、やはりやっている(厳密には中華ではなく、べトナム料理店だったが・・・)。シーフード炒飯と生春巻、そしてココナツ・シェークなるものを頼んた。
そしてホテルに戻り、早めの就寝・・・。
