The first monday of September is holiday in the United States. It is Labor Day, the day meaning the end of the summer for american.
That's not the reason but I decided to go to Mount Rushmore over Labor Day 3 days-weekend. If you have an idea where it is, you should be a good traveler!! Probably most people recognize if I say the place where 4 U.S. presidents were carved into the rocky hill.
This is the place that represents U.S.A. with the Statue of Liberty.
Rapid City in South Dakota state is the closest town. The population is less than 70,000 but the 2nd biggest city in the state. Also there are more than 2 million tourists visiting this town surprisingly to see four presidents.
There are a lot of spots to visit beside Mt. Rushmore. For example, Devils Tower is the location that U.F.O landed in the film "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" by Steven Spielberg. Also Badlands National Park us used in the film "Dance with Wolves" directed by Kevin Costner.
And Mt. Rushmore itself is also used in some films such as "National Treasure: Book of Secrets" (starring Nicolas Cage) and "North by Northwest" (directed by Hitchcock). Also it is used as a motif in Japanese anime series "NARUTO."
I'd like to enjoy these film locations forgetting the daily tasks, at the end of the summer.
