I woked up at 8:30am to check out... but no-one was at the front desk. Nobody showed up after 30 minutes waiting, I left my key into the room and auto-locked. At the end, I left the motel with the memo. Then I took a breakfast at McDonalds and left for the airport.

My impression was just like a rent-a-car right after exiting the gate when I arrived. However there was a statue which was packed with American mid-west taste, which made me laugh. There are not so many airlines and each airline has only 2 check-in gates. It was very slow as if it's not like an airport.

The departure was 30 minutes delayed but took-off in safe. However it was bouncing a lot due to the small size of body right after the take-off til it got into the stable airspace. When it fell suddenly like a roller coaster, there were full of screamings while abroad.

It arrived at Denver in 30 minutes delay. I killed my time organizing photos on PC and it departed on time. This airplane is not so big but bigger than the one from Rapid City. However it made me experience rolling horizontally for the first time while I experienced vertical pitching a lot. The rolling was much scary. There was no screaming but personally I much fell apart.

It arrived at Los Angeles on time and got back to my home at 6:30pm.

Looking back this trip, I got excited with the wonder of nature (Devils Tower & Badlands) and American's craziness in good meaning (Rushmore & Crazy Horse) while I felt at ease with wild animals.

Although having said that, my heart got refreshed for sure but my body got exhausted as a result of long drive after short-sleep because of having tick bites at the motel.
As a reference, the total distance was 527.4 mile (about 844km).

Next trip will be Canada to see autumn leaves along the Maple Highway!!

Motel

朝8時半起床でチェックアウトをしようとするも、受付に誰もいない・・・。30分待ったが、誰も来ないので、部屋にキーを残し、オートロックで、受付にメモを残して、モーテルを出発し、近くのマックで朝食を済ませ、空港へ。

到着した時はゲートを出たらすぐにレンタカーのイメージだったが、建物の外にはアメリカ中西部をとりあえず突っ込みました感満載の銅像があり、ちょっと笑えた。飛んでいる会社が少なく、しかも各社ともにゲートが2つしかいない。空港とは思えない程、のんびりとした穏やかな雰囲気。

出発が30分遅れるが、無事離陸。しかし機体が小さいためか、離陸直後から安定空域に入るまでが揺れる。ジェットコースターのように急激に落下したときは機内に悲鳴がこだました・・・。

デンバーにも30分遅れで到着。ここではパソコンで写真の整理をして時間をつぶし、こちらは定刻出発。こちらも決して大型ではないものの、ラピッド・シティ便よりは大きい機体だったが、今まで経験したことのない横揺れを味わうことに・・・。縦揺れは何度も経験しているのだが、飛行機の横揺れって、意外に怖い。さすがに悲鳴はなかったが、個人的には縦揺れよりも動揺していた。

ロスにも定刻に到着し、18時半に帰宅。

この旅を振り返ってみると、大自然が作り出した驚異(デビルスタワーとバッドランズ)と、それに勝るとも劣らないアメリカ人の良い意味での馬鹿さ加減(ラッシュモアとクレイジーホース)、この2つに心奮える一方で、その環境に身を置いた野生動物に心癒された旅でした。
とはいうものの、心がリフレッシュしたのは間違いないが、体はモーテルでダニに噛まれたこともあって睡眠不足の状態でのロングドライブの結果、かなりのお疲れモードとなった旅でもありました。
ちなみに2日間の走行距離は527.4マイル(約844km)でした。

次の旅行は10月頭にカナダのメープル街道に紅葉を見に行くことになりました！！
