I woked-up at 5:30am, even though I went to bed after 2am last night due to my job. It was really tough but there was no choice because of bus schedule. I got on Greyhound, which I used to board a lot in US. After 2.5 hours driving, it arrived at Canadian capital, Ottawa. I completely slept in the bus. It arrived at 9:30am and would departure at 7:00pm, so I had 9.5 hours to walk around. I put my laggage in to the coin locker at the bus terminal and went out for downtown. It was cloudy again...

First, I went to the Parliament House. I looked forward to going up Peace Tower, which has 92meter height. However there was no guided tour and the building was closed due to the president's visit. I got no luck on this trip...

When I walked along the Rideau Canal, registered in World Heritage, small ship passed by and I could see all the process how the ship goes down the canal with vertical interval using the hatch. It was really nice experience.

Then I walked around the park nearby, I saw the Parliament buildings over and over from various angle. Visiting MINT at 11am, coin production place, they told me it was full until 3pm tour, so I bought 3pm ticket and went to Rideau Falls. I felt the emptiness of that small falls since I saw the big falls at the suburbs of Quebec City.

Returning back to downtown, I went to Notre-Dame. It's ceiling is also turquoise color. I just saw the one in Montreal yesterday, it was not so impressive but it has something noble than Montreal one while less gorgeousness.

Then I visited the first Hard Rock Cafe on this trip. There were only 5 variations of pins because of winter season. I don't quite understand why they closed Montreal store instead of this Ottawa store.
Cafe located in the market area called Byward. They displayed a lot of pumpkins since Halloween was almost there. I found Beaver Tail shop that I went at Mont-Tremblant and I ate it again. That was great after all!

I also found McDonald's. Looking into carefully, there was a mark of maple in the center of yellow logo. I didn't see that maple in neither Montreal or Quebec City, which might be Ottawa only?

Finally the time came and I went to MINT.
Canada has two MINTs in Ottawa and Winnipeg. The money in circulation are made in Winnipeg while Ottawa create special coins for collectors. There are some people who heard Maple Leaf Coins. That's exactly the one Ottawa creates. By the way the bills are printed at Bank of Canada.

Since Canada has a lot of mineral resource and they provide foreign currency besides domestic ones. Basically they create the ones for mineral-poor developing countries but there were some Chinese coins displayed surprisingly. Also there were no perforated coins and I noticed how rare the Japanese 5-yen & 50-yen coins in the world.
At the end of the tour, we can touch a gold bar, which is the feature of this tour.

Getting out side, it was clearly suuny! So I went back to the bus terminal stopping by some places again, where it had been cloudy in the morning, to take photos again. Originally my bus was 7pm but there were extra buses scheduled due to the huge number of passangers and I could get on the bus departing at 6:30pm. Once the bus left the terminal, I fell into the sleep because of fatigue. Arriving at Toronto at 11:30pm, I went to the hotel and done some business emails. At the end I went to the bed at 4am. It's getting later day by day...

昨夜仕事で26時過ぎに寝たにも関わらず、今朝は5時半起き。かなりつらいがバスの時間があるので、仕方ない。ってことで、グレイハウンドというアメリカで何度か使用したことのある長距離バスに揺られること2時間半、カナダの首都オタワへ到着。バスの中は爆睡でした。9時半に到着したのだが、19時のバスでトロントへ向かうため、9時間半の滞在。バス･ターミナルのロッカーに荷物を預け、ダウンタウンへ。やはり今日も曇り。

まず向かったのが、国会議事堂。高さ92mのピース･タワーに登れるということで楽しみにしていたのだが、なんとこの日は大統領が来るということでガイド・ツアーは開催されないとのこと・・・。まただ。とことん運がない。

しかし世界遺産でもあるリドー運河沿いを歩いていたら、丁度小型の船が通りかかり、水門を利用して高低差のある運河を下っていく光景を見ることができた。運河だけに運があったようだ・・・失礼。

その後、周辺の公園を散策しながら、角度を変えて国会議事堂を何度も見ることになった。MINTという造幣局のツアーに向かったが、ここも15時まで予約で一杯だと言う、時間は11時・・・。仕方なく15時のツアー・チケットを購入し、ちょっと外れにあるリドー滝という人口の滝へ。ケベック･シティー郊外で壮大な滝を見ているだけになんとも言えない虚しさだけを感じ、再びダウンタウンへ。

ここにもノートルダム聖堂があり、ここも青緑色をベースにしてはいるものの、モントリオールのそれを前日に見たばかりなので、そこまでの印象は強くなかったが、モントリオールのそれと比べると品はあるが、派手さはないといったところか？

そしてこの旅、初のハード・ロック・カフェ。これから冬ということでピンが5種類しかなかった。なぜモントリオールのお店を閉じて、ここが残されたのか、不思議で仕方がない。カフェがあるのが、バイワードと呼ばれるマーケット・エリア。

ハロウィンが近いということでカボチャを売りまくっていた。散策しているとモントレンブランで食べたBeaver Tailのお店を発見！再び食べる。やはり美味い。
マックも発見、よく見ると黄色いロゴの中央に楓のマークが！モントリオールやケベック･シティーでは見なかっただけにオタワ限定か？

そして時間になったので、MINTへ。
カナダには、ここオタワとウィニペグの2箇所に造幣局があり、一般に市場に流通している硬貨はウィニペグで作られており、オタワはコレクター向けの硬貨のみを作っているとのこと。メープル・リーフ金貨なんて言葉を聞いたことがある人はピンと来るかもしれないが、まさにそのメープル硬貨を作っているのがここオタワの造幣局。ちなみに紙幣についてはバンク・オブ・カナダで刷られているらしい。

またカナダは鉱物資源が豊富なため、海外の硬貨も作っているらしく、他国の硬貨も展示されていて、基本的には資源に乏しい発展途上国が多いのだが、中には中国の硬貨もあり意外だった。また基本、穴の開いたコインは一つもなく、日本の5円玉、50円玉というのは世界的にも珍しいものだということを改めえて感じた。
ツアーの最後に金の延べ棒に触ることができるのもこのツアーの特徴だ。

外に出ると嘘のように快晴。というわけで、バス・ターミナルに戻るついでに午前中曇っていた場所で写真を撮りながらバス停へ戻った。19時発の予定だったが、客が多いせいかバスが増発されていて、18時半のバスに乗ることができた。バスが出発すると同時に疲れがドッとやってきて、直ぐに眠りについた。トロントには23時半に到着。そこからホテルへと向かい、仕事メールを終えて、28時就寝。日に日に寝るのが遅くなっている・・・。
